Dear President Obama
Your Administration has expanded tactics used by law enforcement to deny US citizens their constitutional rights. Just this week you expanded the ability of law enforcement to detain US citizens, deny them legal representation, and hold them indefinitely. Instead of rolling back the heinous policies of the Bush Administration you have expanded them. We are turning into a fascist police state and you support this.
You promised to bring true healthcare reform. What you gave us was a cobbled up mess that continues to reward insurance companies, hospitals, and doctors with immoral levels of profit while they deliver substandard medical care. What happened to government sponsored, government mandated health insurance? What happened to true, universal heath insurance?
You promised to break the hold that Wall Street, banks, and major corporations have on the US economy. You promised to make them pay their fair share. Instead, you gave them billions of dollars in TARP money and under your watch the Federal Reserve gave trillions of dollars to Wall Street and the banks, all with little to no accountability.
The rich have gotten richer and the middle class continues its slide into poverty. You refused to stand your ground on the Bush-era tax cuts. In every way my family and I have become much poorer during your Administration. We have thousands of dollars less of disposable income than we did when you were sworn into office. We lost tax cuts and benefits that helped make lifer easier. All the while, the rich continue to expand their wealth and their tax rates continue to decline.
Some of this could be forgiven……..after all the Democrats do not control Congress. However, they did control Congress for part of your administration. What did you do with the power when you had it?
I have come to see you as a weak President, a leader who has few beliefs or core principles he is will to fight and die for. You think compromise is always a worthy end. You seem to not understand that difficult times require bold, decisive, unflinching decisions. There are times I wish you had a little George W Bush in you. A little bit of the cowboy, the arrogant, this is right, damn the rest of you, end of discussion. Instead, you compromise, even when you don’t have to.
